What exactly is chip tuning and where does the extra power come from?

Chip tuning is a modification of the engine control unit (ECU) software. Manufacturers deliberately leave power reserves - due to market differences, emission standards and model policy, the same engine often comes in several power variants that differ only in software. We optimise the injection, boost and ignition maps, unlocking the potential that was "trimmed" at the factory.

Is chip tuning safe for the engine?

Accepted Answer

Yes - provided the modification is done individually, on a healthy car, and stays within the engineering reserves of the unit. Before every modification we run diagnostics and read the logs, and after flashing the software we verify the engine's operating parameters. We don't flash "maps from the internet" - every file is prepared for your specific car.

Question 3

Will I lose the manufacturer's warranty?

Accepted Answer

Software modification can be grounds for rejecting warranty claims related to the drivetrain. The warranty on other components (electronics, bodywork, equipment) remains unaffected. If your car is under warranty - tell us, and we'll advise the best solution.

Question 4

Will fuel consumption increase after chip tuning?

Accepted Answer

If you keep your current driving style, consumption usually stays the same, and in diesels it often drops slightly - more torque available lower in the rev range means fewer downshifts and lower revs on the motorway. Of course, if you start using the new power, you'll pay for it at the pump.

Can I go back to the original software?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Before any modification we archive the factory file and can restore it at any time - e.g. before a dealer visit or selling the car.

How long does chip tuning take and how should I prepare?

Accepted Answer

Typically 2-4 hours, depending on how the ECU is read (OBD or bench). The car should be in good technical condition: fresh oil service, healthy spark/glow plugs, no active fault codes. If you're unsure about the car's condition - start with diagnostics, and we'll quote the whole job fairly.

Is disabling the DPF, EGR or AdBlue legal?

Accepted Answer

Let's be clear: a vehicle with a removed or disabled exhaust after-treatment system no longer meets type approval and is not road-legal in Poland. A roadside inspection can mean a fine of up to PLN 5,000 and confiscation of the registration certificate. We perform these services for motorsport use, off-road vehicles, machinery operating off public roads and vehicles intended for export outside the EU - always with a written declaration from the customer.

My DPF keeps clogging up. Is removal the only way out?

Accepted Answer

No - and we always start by diagnosing the cause. A clogged DPF is usually a symptom, not the disease: frequent short trips, a faulty pressure sensor, worn injectors, a defective thermostat or EGR. Professional filter regeneration or fixing the root cause is often effective - a legal and lasting solution.

What fails in the AdBlue system and how much does a legal repair cost?

Accepted Answer

The most common failures are supply module pumps, NOx sensors, urea crystallisation in the injector and damaged tank heaters. We diagnose the specific component instead of replacing the whole module - very often the repair is much cheaper than the dealer suggests. Remember: a car with an SCR fault will refuse to start after a set number of kilometres - don't delay diagnostics.

What are the risks of driving with a gutted DPF at the periodic inspection?

Regulations and inspection station equipment are being tightened year by year - particle number (PN) measurements are being introduced that unambiguously detect a missing filter, even when the ECU reports no faults. A car without a DPF may fail its periodic inspection, and selling it without informing the buyer creates civil liability.

Question 11

I bought a car and suspect the previous owner gutted the DPF / disabled AdBlue. What should I do?

Come in for diagnostics - we'll check the ECU software, live data and the physical presence of the systems. We'll prepare a factual condition report and a quote for returning the car to factory state. Such a report can also serve as a basis for claims against the seller.

Is disabling the EGR in agricultural or construction machinery the same as in a passenger car?

Accepted Answer

Machinery operating off public roads is a separate category - we modify emission systems in tractors and construction machines, where EGR/DPF/SCR failures genuinely halt farm or site operations. We always discuss the service and warranty consequences before doing the job.

What is Pop & Bang and won't it damage my car?

Accepted Answer

Pop & Bang (exhaust crackles on lift-off) is achieved by retarding ignition and enriching the mixture. Done in moderation and on a properly prepared exhaust system it is controlled, but it does raise thermal load - a stock ceramic catalytic converter may suffer. That's why we always assess the car's configuration and calibrate the intensity individually. This function is intended for use off public roads.

What are a hardcut limiter and launch control?

Accepted Answer

Hardcut is an aggressive cut-off at the rev limiter with a characteristic "rattle" instead of a smooth power taper. Launch control holds optimal revs and boost at launch, delivering repeatable, maximum-speed getaways. Both functions are enabled in software - no mechanical changes needed.

Can the top speed limiter (Vmax) be removed?

Accepted Answer

Yes, in most cars the 250 km/h limiter is purely a software restriction that can be removed. Remember that your tyres must have the appropriate speed rating, and full performance should only be used on a track.

Yes - it's one of our most popular comfort services. Instead of pressing the button every day, the system remembers your last choice or is permanently deactivated. Fully reversible.

Among others: seatbelt chime off, folding mirrors from the key fob, closing windows and sunroof with one long press of the remote, sport displays in the instrument cluster, changed light behaviour (DRL, coming home), video in motion and much more - the scope depends on the make and equipment. Are sport and comfort functions reversible?

Yes, every software change can be reverted to factory settings. We keep a copy of the original configuration of every car that passes through our workshop.

What does a dyno power run look like?

Accepted Answer

We measure on the road: we fit a precise data logger in the car and perform a series of full-load runs on a defined stretch of road. No rollers, no straps - the engine works in real-world conditions. The whole process takes 30-60 minutes, and you receive the result as a power and torque graph plotted against engine speed.

Is a dyno run safe for the car?

Accepted Answer

Yes - for a technically sound car the measurement is a load comparable to ordinary spirited driving, because that is exactly the condition it takes place in. We run it in a controlled way with live parameter monitoring. Before the run we check oil, coolant and tyre condition.

Why does the measured power differ from the catalogue figures?

Accepted Answer

That's normal. The result is affected by atmospheric conditions (temperature, pressure, humidity), the car's technical condition, fuel, and production tolerances - two factory-identical cars can differ by several to a dozen hp. Correction to a standard (e.g. DIN 70020) makes results comparable between runs.

Why measure power before and after tuning?

The "before" run verifies the car's baseline (does the engine even make factory power - sometimes it doesn't!), and the "after" run documents the effect of the modification in black and white. It's fair to the customer: you pay for a real, measured gain, not a promise from a price list.

Can you measure a car with 4x4 or an automatic gearbox?

Yes, with no limitations at all. Road measurement has no issue with all-wheel drive or automatic and DSG transmissions - that's one of the main advantages of this method over a classic roller dyno, where AWD can be problematic. Let us know your car's configuration when booking.

How should I prepare the car for a dyno run?

Accepted Answer

Fuel tank at least half full, correct tyre pressures, engine free of active faults and leaks, tyres in good condition (no winter tyres in midsummer). If the car has a fault - diagnostics first, dyno second.

What are the symptoms of a faulty engine ECU?

Accepted Answer

Typical symptoms: the car won't start despite the starter cranking, no communication with the ECU, rough running and stalling, faults from many sensors at once, check engine/EPC lights with no logical cause. Note: a damaged wiring harness produces the same symptoms - that's why we always start with diagnostics, not a death sentence for the ECU.

Repair, replacement or cloning - which should I choose?

Repair (replacing damaged electronic components, restoring PCB traces) is the cheapest option and keeps the car's original data. When repair isn't economical, we clone the ECU - transferring the entire memory contents (software, immobiliser, adaptations) to a used unit 1:1, with no dealer visit or costly online programming. A brand-new dealer ECU is the last resort.

Can you repair an ECU after water damage?

Often yes - time is critical. A flooded ECU should be disconnected from power as soon as possible and brought to us; corrosion progresses by the day. After ultrasonic cleaning and repairing the damaged circuits, most units return to full health.

The car won't start because of the immobiliser. Can you help?

Accepted Answer

Yes - we diagnose and repair immobiliser problems: lost key synchronisation, a damaged antenna, EEPROM memory errors. We also rebuild immo data when an ECU is replaced.

How much does an ECU repair cost and how long does it take?

Accepted Answer

The cost depends on the fault - typically from a few hundred to around PLN 1,500, usually a fraction of the price of a new dealer ECU (which can exceed PLN 5,000-10,000). Diagnosis and a quote always come before the repair. Standard turnaround is 1-5 working days.

Passenger car ECU cloning starts at 490 PLN net (bench method). Units requiring boot access start at 990 PLN net, gearbox TCUs at 690 PLN net. Machinery control units start at 1490 PLN net, trucks at 1190 PLN net.

Do I need to bring the vehicle?

Accepted Answer

No. The control unit alone is enough - we handle shipments from all over Poland. A clone keeps the original immobiliser, VIN and adaptations, so no dealer visit or coding is needed afterwards.

Then we switch to virtualisation: adapting a used donor unit to your vehicle. We always call and confirm the new quote before changing the scope of work.

What does computer diagnostics give me?

Accepted Answer

We connect to all of the car's control units (engine, gearbox, ABS, airbag, comfort) and read fault codes and live data. This lets us locate the fault quickly and precisely - instead of replacing parts "blind". We use dealer-grade equipment, not a supermarket OBD reader.

My check engine light is on. Can I keep driving?

A light glowing steadily means a fault that needs diagnosing, but usually lets you reach a workshop. A FLASHING light is an alarm signal (most often misfires that can destroy the catalytic converter) - keep driving to a minimum and contact us as soon as possible.

Does clearing fault codes fix the car?

Accepted Answer

No - that's the most common myth. Clearing codes removes the entry from memory, but not the cause. If the fault is real, the code will come back, and the problem may worsen in the meantime. With us, clearing codes is the final step after fixing the cause, not a service in itself.

How is your diagnostics different from a "fault scan for PLN 50"?

Reading codes is the beginning, not the end. We analyse live data under load, freeze frames, sensor waveforms and component actuation tests. This kind of diagnostics answers "why", not just "what" - and lets us fix the car once, properly.

What is BMW coding all about?

Accepted Answer

Most of your BMW's functions are already in the software - the factory simply didn't activate them, depending on market and equipment. Coding means enabling or personalising those functions with BMW's original engineering tools (E-Sys, ISTA), with no mechanical intervention.

Which functions do customers code most often?

Accepted Answer

The hits are: video in motion, folding mirrors from the fob, closing windows and roof with the remote, seatbelt chime off, drive mode and Start-Stop memory, sport displays in iDrive, warm engine start without Eco, US-style rear light glow, hidden menu activation. Is coding safe and will the dealer detect it?

Accepted Answer

Properly done coding operates solely on factory parameters provided for by BMW - before any changes we archive the original configuration (FA/NCD backup). A software update at the dealer may overwrite the coding; in that case we restore it in a matter of minutes.

Can you retrofit features the car didn't have from the factory?

Yes - we do retrofits: Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, reversing camera, lane assist, active cruise control (where the car's architecture allows) along with full coding and FSC activation. Every retrofit is quoted individually after verifying the equipment.

Yes - after a module swap or software update, functions often revert to factory defaults. We restore the configuration, code new modules to the car (VIN matching, FDL) and bring back all previous personalisations.

Can EVs and hybrids be serviced outside the dealer network without losing the warranty?

Accepted Answer

Yes - under EU law (the Block Exemption Regulation), servicing outside the dealer network does not void the warranty, as long as the work follows the manufacturer's procedures and uses appropriate parts. We document every operation, so your service history remains fully valid.

Yes - work on high-voltage systems is carried out by staff with SEP electrical qualifications and training in vehicle HV systems. We have dedicated EV diagnostics, insulated tooling and safe HV system shutdown procedures.

What is battery SOH and why is it worth knowing?

SOH (State of Health) is the battery's condition as a percentage of its factory state - the most important parameter of an electric car. A healthy battery a few years old typically shows 85-95%. We perform a full SOH test with cell balance analysis, internal resistance and BMS logs - you receive the result as a report.

What does an EV service inspection include?

Less than a combustion car, but not "nothing": HV system and battery diagnostics, checking the battery and power electronics cooling system, brakes (they corrode faster in EVs because they work less), suspension, air conditioning (which often cools the battery too), software updates.

Usually yes. We diagnose the battery down to individual modules - very often the fault affects one or two modules or just the wiring/sensors, not the whole pack. Selective repair costs a fraction of a new dealer battery.

Daily charging to 100% and deep discharges accelerate lithium-ion battery degradation. Day to day it's optimal to stay between 20-80%, and use a full charge before a longer trip. We're happy to advise charging settings for your model.

What does a pre-purchase inspection cover?

Accepted Answer

A comprehensive check: paint thickness measurement across the whole body, full computer diagnostics of all modules, mileage verification in the control units, assessment of the engine, gearbox, suspension and brakes, underbody inspection, a test drive and vehicle history analysis. We check from 200 to over 300 inspection points.

How long does the inspection take and what do I get?

A full inspection takes 2-3 hours. You receive a clear report with photo documentation, a list of faults, estimated repair costs and our recommendation: buy, negotiate or run.

Is it worth paying a few hundred zlotys for an inspection?

Accepted Answer

The average hidden fault in a used car costs many times more than the inspection. The report is also a negotiating tool - our customers regularly knock the purchase price down by amounts far exceeding the cost of the check.

I'm buying a used EV or hybrid - can you check it?

Accepted Answer

Yes, and it's definitely worth it: the most expensive part of an EV is the battery, whose condition you can't judge by eye. We run an SOH test, cell balance analysis and charging history review. A result below ~80% SOH is a signal for hard price negotiation or walking away.

The seller won't agree to an inspection. What does that mean?

A red flag. An honest seller of a sound car has no reason to refuse an inspection - refusal usually means there's something to hide. We advise looking elsewhere.

What's the difference between Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3?

Accepted Answer

Stage 1 is a software-only optimisation on stock hardware. Stage 2 adds hardware modifications - usually the exhaust (downpipe), intake and intercooler - with dedicated software calibrated for them. Stage 3 is a deep build: a bigger turbocharger, injectors, an uprated clutch, often forged pistons and rods. The higher the stage, the more power, but also higher costs and service requirements.

What do I need to replace to do Stage 2 safely?

Depending on the car: a downpipe with a sports catalytic converter, a more efficient intercooler, an intake, often an uprated clutch (manual) or gearbox software (automatic/DSG). We match components to the specific engine and goal - we don't sell one-size-fits-all "kits".

Is the car still suitable for daily driving after hardware tuning?

Accepted Answer

Stage 1 and a well-executed Stage 2 - absolutely; the car remains civilised and refinement doesn't suffer. With Stage 3 the compromises grow (a stiffer clutch, a louder exhaust, more frequent servicing). During the consultation we establish what you expect and tailor the configuration to how you use the car.

Are a downpipe swap and catalytic converter removal legal?

Accepted Answer

Removing the catalytic converter means failing emission standards and type approval - we do such modifications for motorsport/track use. The road-legal alternative is a downpipe with a high-flow metallic sports cat, which retains the exhaust-cleaning function.

Does a more powerful car need better brakes and suspension?

Accepted Answer

With bigger power gains - definitely yes. Power is only half the equation; we advise upgrading the brakes (pads, discs, braided lines), suspension and tyres to match the performance. A safe car is a complete car, not just a fast one.

How do I look after the car after tuning?

Shorter oil change intervals (we suggest every 10,000 km, fully synthetic oil to spec), regular checks of the boost system, good fuel (98+ octane for petrol), and a moment to let the turbo cool down after spirited driving. After our tuning, we invite you back for a free parameter check after the first 1,000 km.

Will servicing my car with you preserve the manufacturer's warranty?

Yes - EU law guarantees that servicing at an independent workshop does not void the warranty, provided the manufacturer's procedures and intervals are followed and parts of comparable quality are used. We record services in the service book (including digital ones) and issue full documentation.
